This interesting, slow-growing deciduous shrub produces edible fruits which are not only healthy but also include a high Vitamin C content. These are red and pear-shaped, ready for harvesting towards the end of August. In spring, attractive, small, bright yellow flowers appear on the leafless branches, providing a delicate, intoxicating scent. Cornus mas ‘Schönbrunner Gourmet Dirndl’ is extremely attractive to pollinators and other wildlife, and can be grown as either a specimen plant or trained to form a hedge, particularly useful in small gardens with limited space.
